Their is one thing that sure can be even more frustrating than being a parent, and that is trying to become one and having no success. Surprisingly one in seven couples actually conceive a child, it can be a long and very difficult process and can take at least one whole year and sometimes several years.

Some couples trying to get pregnant are infertile because of some physical problems. But most of the couples are just “under fertile” and are physically able to conceive but they have to nudge the old stork just a little more than usual. Here’s what some experts recommend for home remedies to get pregnant.

Take Some Cough Syrup. Long before we had these high tech tools, many doctors would recommend that women trying to get pregnant take cough syrup that contains “guaifenesin” about four times each day around the time of your ovulation, according to Arthur L. Wisot, M.D., he is a fertility specialist and is affiliated with the Center for Advanced Reproductive Care located in Redondo Beach, California.

And that is still very sound advice, because what guaifenesin does is thins the cervical mucus, thus making it easier for the sperm to swim through to meet the egg.

Do not lubricate with the commercial products. When you have intercourse and need some help, couples often times use one of those commercial lubricants, for instance K-Y jelly. These products can harm your chances of conceiving.

The reason is these lubricants can impair sperm thus making them less likely to reach the egg, claims John Willems M.D. he is associate clinical professor of obstetrics-gynecology from the University of California, San Diego. Also is a researcher at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation-LaJolla. He says that a woman’s natural body lubricants are all you should need.

Use egg whites instead. If a lubricant is what’s needed during intercourse, try the egg white instead of the pharmaceutical lubricant, touts Andrew Toledo-M.D. a fertility specialist and reproductive endocrinologist who is an assistant clinical professor of medicine in the Dept. of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emery University-Atlanta. The egg white lubricant is pure protein, and so is sperm, it makes a much better carrier than the lubricants made from non-protein materials.

If the dryness is really a problem, Dr. Toledo suggests that using egg white lubricant during those days when the female is fertile and regular lubricant the rest of the time. Caution-do not use egg white if you are allergic to them, and make sure you separate the white part from the yolk before you apply it to the penis or vagina.
