Here is a question asked by a young woman trying to get pregnant
Can I Get A Tattoo If I’m Pregnant?
Pregnant Woman With Tatoo
Here are the answers I received:

Answer: you’re not supposed to. the ink is bad for the baby and a lot of tats have to be redone. My sister-in-law had one while pregnant and it got really infected and the color didn’t stay the doctor told her never to do it again while pregnant! =
Answer: i got one done at 19 weeks and later found out most tattoo parlours wont do them due to the risk of the mother getting stressed etc but they also said the ink is not harmful to the baby or mother if it is sterile (which it should be any way) unless the tattoo is done on the stomach as for getting infected and the colour staying it mostly depends on how u take care of it while it is healing but by all means talk to your doctor and a tattooist about the risks mine said because i have had other tat’s done i am unlikely to stress about it and that it is my choice in the end =
Answer: I had a similar question…. only I wanted to get one removed while pregnant….. the answer was “No way” from the OB and the plastic surgeon who did the removals. They both said the ink can be toxic to the baby. (Sterility has nothing to do with it). Unfortunately, turns out I had a removal session 2 days before I conceived. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if there are any ill-affects. =
Answer: ofcourse you can! the ink isnt anymore toxic to a pregnant woman than it is to a woman who isnt pregnant. just dont get it any place where it may stretch. Dr.’s dont agree with anything that they are unsure of. =
Should I get a tattoo when Im pregnant

Should I get a tattoo when Im pregnant

Answer: Can’t you wait until after the baby is born just to be safe? There is always a chance of developing an infection or getting hepatitis. That way if anything were to happen it would only affect you and not the baby. =

I know getting a tatto is fun, but I don’t know how safe it is when you are pregant. I would research a little more before getting a tattoo while you are pregnunt. This post is about tattoos and pregnacy.

Anything external works your immune system harder. Tats near the stomach area I believe to be not good.
Plus if you got it on your stomach or anywhere stretch after birth your tat may not look as nice When back to normal size.

Very inadvisable. Any tattoo can become infected, and NO tattoo ink available is FDA approved, I don’t care what any tattoo parlor says.

Why take a chance? Wait until after you deliver. What’s the rush?

I was thinking about getting a new tatoo but reading the comments Im going to wait until after the baby is born. My baby is more important than getting a tattoo right now. Thank you for this great pregnancy resource.

I was looking for some reference for an appointment I have (I work at a tattoo shop)and I stumbled across this little page and I thought I would give my input on this a little bit. If we have a pregnant woman come into the shop wanting a tattoo we won’t do it. Getting tattooed while pregnant can cause too much stress to the baby, and while getting tattooed your body releases adrenaline, which can flow through into the breast milk. You’re also not supposed to get tattooed while breast feeding for that same reason. If you are to get tattooed while breast feeding, you shouldn’t boob feed your child for at least a day so that the adrenaline can diminish. This is all what I have come to learn through the years. I hope this can help some people out.

I commend you for thinking of the health of another human beings unborn baby, and not giving her a tattoo while she is pregnant. I didn’t even think of the adrenaline being released in the unborn baby or the breast milk. I know a lot of mothers to be are looking for this information because its by far the most popular post on this blog, getting over 100 hits everyday.
